Salties Atlantic Cod is known for its snow white pearlescent flesh and gentle but distinctive flavour. It has a mild and slightly sweet taste with large flakes that come apart easily when cooked.
We highly recommend Deep Frying, Boiling, Pan Frying, Poaching, Sautéing, Baking, Steaming, or BBQing our Atlantic Cod.
The Availability of our Cod is steady all throughout the year with spike periods in Feb/Mar and Sept/Oct/Nov.
Atlantic Cod is caught all around Iceland, with the exceptionally large areas concentrated on the Western and Eastern coasts.
Cod makes up such an important part of the Icelandic culture that for centuries it served as our coat of arms: A butterfly Salted Cod with a golden crown, situated on a red shield.
The average size of Cod caught in Iceland is in the range of 55 to 90 cm. Cod can grow quite large; where the largest individual ever caught in Icelandic waters measured 186 cm and was 17 years old.
Atlantic Cod likes eating Capelin, Herring, Lobsters and other Shellfish.
